Permanent Cosmetics at Q Med Spa

Permanent Cosmetics: Frequently Asked Questions

As permanent makeup has quickly gained popularity at Q the Medical Spa at Lindsay House, it seems as though our patients have a lot of the same questions and misconceptions about the treatment.  To satisfy our need for providing you with the latest industry information and to make your life a little easier, we have provided a few of our most frequently asked questions about permanent makeup.

1.)  What exactly is permanent makeup?  Is it a tattoo? Permanent cosmetic makeup is a specialized technique that is an advanced form of cosmetic tattooing.  Often referred to as microdermal pigmentation, dermagraphics and micro-pigment implantation, permanent makeup is a safe, non-surgical treatment used to permanently enhance areas such as eyes, brows and lips.

2.) What type of person will benefit most from this treatment?  Anyone who is busy and is looking to streamline their beauty regimen will surely benefit from this procedure.  Others that will significantly benefit are people that:

  •  Have make-up allergies
  • Have permanent hair loss or very thin eyelashes and/or eyebrows
  • Have shaky hands and/or poor eyesight
  • Have oily skin

3.) How long does "permanent" cosmetic make-up really last?  This treatment is considered permanent because color is implanted into the dermal layer of the skin and can not be removed superficially.  However, as with any tattoo, fading can occur and maintenance may be necessary.  The quality and longevity of your treatment will depend on your technician, how deep the pigment was placed, the iron oxides used and how the patient takes care of their skin.

4.)  If I am considering having plastic surgery, should I have the treatment done before or after my surgery?  If you are seriously considering plastic surgery and are interested in permanent makeup, we strongly suggest that you have a conversation with your surgeon and technician.  There are many variables involved including type of procedure, skin elasticity, skin condition, etc.  so it is best to leave it up to the professionals to decide what would provide you with the best result.

5.)  How long before I see my final results?

Results are immediate, however, it will take approximately 4 to 8 weeks for the "final" results.  After this point, we suggest having a follow-up appointment with the technician to review your results, and if necessary, to schedule a touch-up appointment.

6.)  Will my results look natural? At your initial consultation, your technician will meet with you to collect and analyze information about your needs and expectations.  This appointment will allow you to learn about the procedure, but will also help you to understand what result you can expect from the treatment.  An educated technician that has been well trained in cosmetic tattooing should be able to create a shape and custom color blend to suit your needs.

7.)  Will I experience pain?  The majority of patients will experience slight to moderate discomfort during the treatment.  Topical anesthetics are used.  It is best to discuss this at your initial consultation with your technician.

8.)  What is the average cost of this treatment?

The cost can range anywhere from $150 to $650, depending on the treatment area.
